I went to see Antibalas Afro-Beat Orchestra at the Jazz Cafe on Friday the
13th - a night which could have been unlucky...I got there early and lo and
behold the 15 piece band were sitting upstairs casually having a meal &
happy to speak to a fellow American in London. I asked them where they'd
    been & they'd
had a flat-ish night in Manchester the night before. They said the best
part of their dates were two nights in Ireland including Dublin!!!
They played mid-week and couldnt believe how up for it, friendly, amazing
everyone was... Packed crowds on weekday nights...They raved on and on about
    Ireland....
They're signed to Ninja Tune and have a new album out, but it was their
seventh trip over here (I found out about em from the Ninja website which
is why I ended up @ the Jazz Cafe)....

Where's the Irish acid jazz posse? btw: I went to see David Holmes on
Thursday in London, but everyone seemed to be out that night... He was on
late, so I went round the corner to the 333 to give my money to Aftershock a
benefit for Indias Earthquake Relief. Another amazing night with London
Live dj's - Jon More from Coldcut, Ross Allen, Norman Jay & several crews I
cant remember. I didnt stay past one & when I got in my car Bob Jones was
on the radio....Ok, ok, I realise I'm lucky in London
but surely there must be a way of finding gigs over there....

BTW: Antibalas - very Fela Kuti inspired crew rocked it - I mean really
really rocked it... They said they have a few regular nights in New York.
If anyone likes Afro, Funk & moving their body (no pills or booze required -
I had a coffee!!!) & live in NYC, worth checking...
