I wont be the cocktail hour warmup dj for vadim in dublin (altho i'd 
love to come over there again). i didnt hear props back from him, but 
the bar staff loved it!   i also dragged out a lot of hip hop related 
breaks but i was
playing on a hot night in london while people werre milling outside.
years ago i used to play to 'b&t' commercial crowds on friday nite 
where i managed to develop a crowd pleasing formula of 50% what the 
crowd wants to hear and 50% of what i want to play & although I never 
became a B illboard
100 dj I was under pressure to play new records from record companies 
who I got free tunes from.   I only played what I liked & what fit 
with my personality and the crowd.
After having been in dj retirement for many years, I will now only 
play what I like and prefer not to be under pressure to work the 
crowd - they feel like shaking out to some james brown along with me 
- cool. They wanna talk boozey &
sit & schmoozy that's cool too.
Having heard Funki at Xen Cargo a few months back, I know he shares a 
bit of my tude about djing versus going out and doing a live show.  I 
really wish I made
it to Dublin, as I've never heard  Up Bustle & Out DJ.  And I can 
appreciate that you have a certain expectation of what someone will 
be like as a DJ when you've heard their albums but  FP & UB&O I think 
relish in the unexpected.
Wagon Christ & Amon Tobin - that's a totally different kind of DJ set...
And DJ Vadim is different every time I've seen him - last year lotta 
old breaks - this year it was all fresh outta the box.
