    Attention Da Lata Fans!

Aterciopelados - Gozo Poderoso ("Powerful Joy") - UPC: 743218089923

Found a sealed promo of this ($3.49!) last night at a local Rhino Records.
This upstate NY WASP doesn't understand a word of it but these folks produce
some gorgeous sounds. The singing of Andrea Echeverri is very reminiscent of
Da Lata's Liliana Chachian and just as enchanting. I love this list - would
have passed this right over if you folks weren't out there to enlighten me.
See the B&N review below - the fifth release (!) by wonderful artists - that
probably 99.8% of the world is missing. Glad to be part of the other .02 -
    Thanks!

Colombia's Aterciopelados (the Velvety Ones) bring it all back home on their
fifth -- and finest --studio album. Recorded and self-produced in their own
studio in their native Bogotá, Gozo Poderoso parades the band's singular
synthesis of traditional Colombian styles, trip-hop, pop, and trance rock in
a glorious postmodern riot of color. Unlike the cooler techno sounds of
Caribe Atomico (recorded in New York), these cuts clearly show Atercio's
core unit of singer Andrea Echeverri and bassist Hector more focused than
ever on a dove's mission. From the packaging (the interior of the CD case
bears the whimsical image of a heart-shaped brain) to breezy lyrics about
humanism, shamans, and the shedding of the ego, a bright, childlike
sincerity informs most of the album. "Luz Azul" (That Blue Light) is
free-and-easy guitar grooving for all seasons, while the futuristic
"Esmeralda" is a hard-thumping slice of llanera-meets-techno. Playful organ
and loops help push "Uno lo Mio y lo Tuyo" into irresistible hook country.
Those who have come to expect only bad news out of Colombia should find this
ray of sunshine a delightful eye-opener. Abraham Velez
